Consultation

During your consultation, you will discuss your expectations and concerns about the surgery. The doctor will ask questions about your medical health, analyze your medical history and check for any medical conditions. Whether you have allergies to certain medications, whether you smoke or drink, or use drugs etc. all will be discussed.

The doctor will also consult you about the procedure details, the level of risks involved and the likely outcome. There will be certain guidelines as well for you to follow before a week or two prior to the surgery such as stop smoking/drinking, stop taking the medications that might interfere with the outcome of the surgery.

Your complete health evaluation will be done, and the doctor may also take image of the areas to be operated to match with the results. Once you are found a candidate for vaginoplasty, the surgery will go ahead as planned. In some cases, the doctor may not advise the surgery altogether if there are some health concerns to you.

Surgery

A monsplasty or pubic lift procedure is done to remove excess skin and fat in the mons area. Depending on the severity of the problem and extent of the procedure, the surgery can either be performed under general or local anesthesia with the use of sedation. Only local sedation may be enough where a minimal amount of tissue must be removed but general anesthesia can be used where the procedure is extensive or when it’s combined with other invasive surgery. In some cases, the surgeon may also perform a liposuction to take out excess fatty issues and enhance the outline later. During the surgery, a horizontal incision is created at the upper edge of the mons area and then the underlying muscles are lifted and tightened to shape a firmer pubic area. The excess skin is then removed so that the pubic skin can be pulled upwards to the newly created position. The incision is shut off with sutures and skin adhesive.

Post Surgery

The recovery will take about one week with restrictions on physical activity for two to six weeks after just depending on the degree of surgery. If skin was removed, then one or two drains may be placed with removal typically scheduled within the first few days after the procedure. You cannot bath, use a hot tub or swimming pool until the incision are fully healed. A gentle soap and water are recommended for daily cleaning. After two weeks, you will be able to begin using scar gel.

Do not worry if the area feels fuller than it did before the procedure, as this is just swelling which usually shows improvement over three weeks. Full exercise should also be avoided for about six weeks after surgery at which point you will be able to ease back into your workout routines.

After Care

In order to have successful long-lasting results it is important to follow the below:

• Take medications as prescribed by the surgeon.
• You are advised to avoid sex for at least 4-6 weeks post the surgery.
• Stay away from swimming, avoid rubbing the area using tampons or wearing tight clothes for two weeks.
• Avoid strenuous exercise or lifting heavy objects for at least two weeks.
• Take it easy in the first week after the surgery and give the body time to heal and rest.
• Use icing with a cold pack sandwiched between the underpants and an elastic garment, like Spanx to reduce swelling.
• It is important to attend the follow-up appointments with your doctor to keep your track of your progress.
