Breast Lift

Introduction
Really beautiful breasts are a rarity in the general population. But the media present these very exceptions as standard examples to us all.
Sagging breasts develop when a woman loses a lot of weight or breast feeds several children or after reaching menopause. The skin loses its elasticity and the glandular breast hangs down within its skin envelop. The reason for this is the temporary increase in breast volume which causes the skin to stretch. A ptotic or sagging breast refers to a breast where the nipple is located below the inframammary fold (the fold beneath the breast) with the patient standing up.

Lifting the breasts removes the redundant skin and repositions the nipple-areola complex in a more “ideal” position. The result is the elevation and reshaping of the breast for a more youthful appearance. The price paid to achieve this lift is scars that are permanent although they usually become less obvious with time. For some patients in Dubai, a breast lift is performed in conjunction with breast augmentation.

Breast reduction in Dubai is done to reduce the size of women’s breasts, while simultaneously improving their appearance and shape to be more proportioned to the body. Breasts that are too large are not only an aesthetic problem but a medical problem as Dubai patients with enormous breasts suffer from chronic back and neck pain. Furthermore, the shape and size of a woman’s breasts have an impact on her self-image, lifestyle, and physical and mental well-being. While often done for younger women, it can be performed on women of all ages.

How are Breast Lift and Reduction Performed?

There are twenty different surgical procedures in Dubai for reduction and lifting. Preference is given to procedures that produce the least scars, preserve the nipple sensation and ability to breast feed.

Breast reduction is done in a full operating theatre here at our Dubai facility, and often performed under general anaesthetic. It typically requires staying in the hospital for two days, although day case surgeries are possible for some patients. The procedure itself lasts 3 to 4 hours, depending on the complexity of the case. Incision lines and the new positions of the nipple and areola will be indicated before the operation. Once the patient is sedated, the nipples and areolas are moved to their new positions, excess tissue is removed, and the breasts are shaped. The incisions are closed with dissolving stitches and properly dressed, resulting in a small inverted T-shaped scar. A small rubber drain may be used to excise fluids or blood that may accumulate.

Breast Lift and Reduction: Potential Complications

Reductions and lifts may temporarily result in swelling, bruising, tenderness of breasts, or sensations of tightness. In some cases, itching and numbness may be experienced during the healing process. These side effects are temporary and minor, and will ease away over time.

For reductions, an inverted T-shaped scar will be the only remnant of the procedure, while for lifts a vertical scar is all what we usually produce. Both procedures create a fine scar around the areola. Usually, all scars gradually become less noticeable 6 to 12 months post-surgery.

The Recovery Process
Recovery from the procedure takes around 2 to 3 weeks, at which point, the patient can return to work and other daily routines. Sensations of tenderness or numbness may be felt a few months post-surgery. A tight-fitting bra is advised for the first few weeks, and sports and other activities are not advised for the first two months. Following that period, the patient may engage in sports such as tennis, jogging, or biking around Dubai, but only while wearing a sports bra. The results of a breast reduction and lifts are permanent and significant, but the physical body will still be subject to the laws of gravity over the years.
