Body Contouring with injections (Lipolysis)

The popularity of melting fat by injecting with a fine needle a special substance while controversal among plastic surgeons, and illegal in a few European countries, is gaining popularity among plastic surgeons and dermatologists worldwide.  Lipolysis is ideal for localized fat deposits of the jowls, double chin, axillary folds, buffalo hump, inner ams, small areas in the abdomen, outer and inner thighs, the region above the knee and for the treatment of small fat tumors (lipomas).

Why is the treatment controversal?

Many beauty salons and untrained general practinoners and doctors used lipolysis on patients who were not good candidates in an attempt to desolve large amounts of fat, resulting in unnecessary complications, thereby creating bad press for a potentially good procedure.

Which patient is ideal for this therapy?

First you should know that this therapy cannot replace liposuction.  Injection lipolysis is safe and effective for small areas. You are probably familiar with the persistant and stubborn localized fat that does not respond to changing eating habits or diets and special exercise regimens.

After 3-4 sessions, the fat is in many cases measurably reduced. However, 5% of patients do not respond.

How does it work?

The solution contains Phosphotidylcholin 5%, a soy bean derived natural substance, which is also produced naturally from the body. Using tiny needles to deliver the lipolisis agent, the double layer of the fat cells membrane explodes and kills itself. Additionaly enzymes will be released breaking down the fat cells within few weeks. The final product will be transported to the liver mostly through the HDL (high-density lipoprotein or the good cholesterol).

Ist the therapy with lipolysis Injection painful?

You do feel slight initial pricks followed by a sun-burn like temporary sensation.

Which side-effects are frequently?

Thousands of Network-Lipolysis members report no serious health risks from the procedure. All side-effects occuring after the treatment are temporary:
Mild swelling, reddness, sensitivity to pressure, muscle ache and in some patients bruising.

Please hold a detailed consultation with one of our experienced dermatologists to discuss the possible general and individual side-effects.

Is the result permanent?

Lipolysis Injections achieve a permanent reduction in small localized fat deposits by damaging the wall of these fat cells.

What should I know?

  • Lipolysis Injections have so far not been approved by the health authorities. However this is not  the only therapy in which a substance is applied in a so called "off-label-use“. One of the best known examples is the use of Panadol or tylenol as a treatment to lower body temperature when in fact the FDA has only approved its use for treating pain. However, the treatment is perfectly legal.
  • It is also important to know that the lipolysis Injection can not take the place of a change in your lifestyle that maybe necessary.
  • Before and after the therapy, it is ideal to drink 2-3  liters of water without gas. Additionally avoid sun, sauna and extreme sports.
  • As a rule, you need 3-4  treatments at intervals of 4-8 weeks depending on dosages.
