What do Madonna, Demi Moore and Angelina Jolie have in common? They all had cheek augmentation surgery!
Also known as cheek implant surgery, cheek augmentation alters the shape of the cheeks by increasing their volume and projection. Our surgeons perform many cheek augmentations each year but we no longer uses implants. Why? We consider cheek augmentation with implants to actually turn into three operations, not just one – One surgery to put the implant in, one to fix one the asymmetry that will inevitably occur due to implant movement, and the third to remove the implant. Instead, we augment cheeks with fat grafting. We use fat from your body and inject into the cheek area. Fat grafting is a simple, predictable way to augment cheeks, lips and folds in the face and is our preferred method of cheek augmentation. The procedure is done under local anesthesia with mild sedation and minimal discomfort and you go home in the same day.
You will experience some degree of bruising, swelling, and discomfort around your cheek and chin all of which improve by the day. The bruising should subside after one week. You may put make-up on after a few days if you wish. You are encouraged to rest the first night in hospital. It is important not to sleep and put pressure on your cheeks or chin. It is vital you maintain good oral hygiene with regular mouthwashes and teeth brushing. Depending on your type of work, you may return to work between 5–10 days after your procedure. No heavy lifting, straining or strenuous exercise for 6 weeks. It can take a several weeks before the swelling completely subsides and the final result seen.
