Frequently Asked Questions
|
Each day we receive a number of phone calls from both current and prospective patients inquiring about some aspect of cosmetic surgery.
This next section of our site is a list of the ten most frequently asked questions.
If your questions are not specifically answered here, then please call one of our Centers or e-mail us and we will be glad to answer your query.
Is it expensive?
Nothing of value is inexpensive, but most procedures are affordable to many patients.
Our Centers provide value by offering honest professional advice, access to some of the finest physicians in the world, well-equipped Centers, providing services in a pleasant and caring environment. It may not be smart to shop around for the cheapest place.. In the long run cheaper could be very costly, after all it is the most precious thing you have, its is your face.. and your body.
What’s the right age?
The best age to have cosmetic surgery is when your aging face bothers you enough to correct it - when you don’t look like you any more. Most of our patients are in their forties or fifties but we can perform it earlier if your face has aged enough. Or later.
Ask yourself the magic question: "Will I gain enough (improved appearance and increased self-esteem) for it to be worth the cost (time, money, risk and what your mother might say)? If your answer is, "yes", then do it now. If it is "no", then wait until the answer becomes "yes"…if it ever does.
Another question to ask yourself is: "When do I want to look the best I can look? Now? …or some other time?"
Is it necessary?
No. Cosmetic surgery isn’t necessary surgery. It falls into a different category - useful surgery. Rather than asking yourself if you need cosmetic surgery, ask instead if it would be useful. When a patient asks us if he/she needs it…a frequent question…we tell her, "No you don’t. But it might be useful if you want to look your best." One woman said, "I fixed my sagging porch. Why wouldn’t I fix my sagging face?"
Do I have to be hospitalized?
We have not found it necessary to hospitalize the majority of our patients. We would estimate that almost everyone can have cosmetic surgery as an outpatient. Breast reduction and Tummy Tuck patients are advised to stay two nights.
In the UAE, we perform our procedures in the fully equipped operating suites at the new Emirates Hospital in Jumeirah and Emirates Hospital in Abu Dhabi. We have found it safer and more convenient for you.
Is it painful?
Surprisingly, there is very little pain following surgery of the face or liposuction of the body, provided they are performed using modern techniques. However, following breast surgery and tummy tucks the patient can be uncomfortable for two to four days. This discomfort is usually well controlled with the new and effective painkillers available today.
How long is the recovery?
Most real surgeries do create some swelling and/or bruising or redness, which initially make the patient look worse. Depending upon the procedure, type of surgery and the patient’s ability to heel, the recovery time may involve anywhere from two to ten days or so.
Superficial peels, botox injections, liposuction, fat transfer and vein surgery heal in 2-3 days. Breast surgery, nose surgery, eyelid surgery and tummy tucks require 7-10 days.
Facelifts, deep chemical peels and laser resurfacing require two weeks.
What are the risks?
With each surgery, no matter how small, there is always the risk of complications. By choosing the right doctor, the right center and by following instructions the risks are acceptable. While there is no “risk free” surgery, most patients experience satisfactory results and uneventful healing and recovery.
For a more complete understanding of possible risks and complications, we recommend that each patient considering surgery have a detailed discussion with the physician about the specific risks pertaining to their surgery and health.

How long do results last?
The best answer is forever…in the sense that you will always look younger than if you had not done it. Cosmetic surgery can turn the clock back, but the clock keeps running. Moreover, the face-clock runs faster every year whether you’ve had cosmetic surgery or not.
Latest advancements: real or hype?
It is difficult for a “consumer” to really tell the difference between “latest breakthrough” and “latest hype”. Often an article will come out in a lay magazine or talk show, and the virtues of a new technological breakthrough or procedure are trumpeted before they have been adequately studied. Our doctors will help you decide what is best for you. Sometimes “new’ is better and sometimes it is not.
Choosing your surgeon
There are very few surgeons who can be excellent at everything.
Some are excellent at nose surgeries or facelifts others at breast surgery or hair transplantation others at lasers and chemical peels or permanent make-up.
Our staff will recommend the surgeon who is best at the procedure you need.
We also supplement our permanent staff with visiting professors (click here for their schedule) and if you so desire or need we can refer you to someone out of the country since we have the largest network of cosmetic surgeons in the world. (Our locations)
